During the COVID-19 pandemic, ISKRA was invited by Swaraj Abhiyan, an Indian socio-political organisation, to participate in a discussion on the Public Distribution System (PDS) and its role in ensuring food security for vulnerable communities.
The discussion highlighted the importance of access to subsidised food grains and essential supplies at a time when the pandemic had affected livelihoods and household incomes, particularly among low-income families and informal workers.
The session provided an opportunity to discuss the role of the Public Distribution System in supporting families during the crisis and the need to strengthen access to food security schemes. ISKRA shared its perspective on the challenges faced by vulnerable communities and the importance of ensuring that government support reaches those who need it most.
The discussion reflected the importance of community organisations and public institutions working together to improve access to essential services during emergencies.
